Clara Barley

Clara's debut novel The Moss House was published by Bluemoose Books in July 2019. The historical fiction novel is based on the story of Anne Lister (1791 -1840) of Shibden Hall, Halifax. The Moss House was selected by New Writing North for their Read Regional libraries campaign in 2020-21. She has also written non-fiction short stories, scripts for short films and theatre.

"The Moss House is a wonderful book. Clara Barley transports the reader historically whilst entertaining them emotionally. I felt a profound sadness when I finished reading The Moss House and I'll be thinking about it for a very long time. It's a wonderful read" - Linda's Book Bag.

Clara works in the heritage sector and has written non-fiction on a range of historical subjects for exhibitions, publications, performance and films. She has spoken at numerous libraries and events about The Moss House and on a range of historic subjects.
